Proc. 2013-07 Domestic Violence Awareness Month 10-12
PROCLAMATION
NO. 2013-07
WHEREAS the crime of domestic violence violates an individual’s privacy and
dignity, security and humanity, due to systematic use of physical,
emotional, sexual, psychological, and economic control and/or
abuse, including abuse to children and the elderly; and
WHEREAS the problems of domestic violence are not confined to any group or
groups of people, but cut across all economic, racial, and societal
barriers, and are supported by societal indifference; and
WHEREAS the impact of domestic violence is wide ranging, directly effecting
individuals and society as a whole, here in this community,
throughout the United States, and the world; and
WHEREAS SAAFE House is a nonprofit organization, led by dedicated staff and
volunteers committed to empowering abuse victims by providing
free, immediate, and confidential crisis intervention, shelter, and
counseling services to the people of Walker, Polk, Trinity, and San
Jacinto Counties.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
October 2012
be declared: “Domestic Violence Awareness Month”
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to actively participate in the scheduled
activities and programs to work toward improving victim safety and holding perpetrators of
domestic abuse accountable for their actions against individual victims and our society as a
whole.
