PROCLAMATION
NO. 2013-09
WHEREAS hospice palliative care provides expert pain management, symptom control, emotional
support, and spiritual care to patients and family caregivers when a cure is not
possible; and
WHEREAS care is provided by a highly trained team of professionals and volunteers and is
typically administered in the home, allowing people to be with their families and loved
ones in comfortable surroundings at the end of life; and
WHEREAS according to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, more than 1.58
million people living with a life-limiting illness receive care from hospice palliative
care providers in the U.S. each year; and
WHEREAS the 2012 outreach theme for National Hospice and Palliative Care Month is, “Comfort.
Love. Respect.”
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me
as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
November 2013
be declared: “Hospice & Palliative Care Month”
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to recognize the important function
that Hospice & Palliative Care fills in our society, and express thanks to those
individuals who provide it.
