Proc. 2012-02 Breast Cancer Awareness Month 10-11
PROCLAMATION
NO. 2012-02
WHEREAS breast cancer is the most common non-skin cancer among women across
the globe, affecting more than one in eight women in their lifetimes; and
WHEREAS a diagnosis of breast cancer can be devastating, effective treatment enables
long, productive lives for many patients and new therapies prolong and
greatly improve the quality of life; and
WHEREAS there are approximately 2.3 million breast cancer survivors who are alive
today and if all women age 40 and older took advantage of early detection
methods, breast cancer death rates would drop much further; and
WHEREAS raising awareness of this disease will help bring about acceptance, support,
solidarity, and will help advocate for medical advances.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
October 2011
be declared: “Breast Cancer Awareness Month”
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to join in recognizing the need for
improved treatments and remind all citizens about the importance of breast cancer
screening.
