PROCLAMATION
NO. 2011-49
WHEREAS Ona Estell Thomas was born September 29, 1911 on a farm in Shiro,
Texas, which is still in her family today; and
WHEREAS Ona married John L. Franklow in 1932, with whom she had her
daughter, Judith; and
WHEREAS Mrs. Franklow attended Sam Houston Normal Institute where she
received her teaching certificate and, from the now named Sam
Houston State University, her masters degree in education; and
WHEREAS Mrs. Franklow was a first grade teacher for thirty-four years, most
of those in Navasota; and
WHEREAS Ona and John were married and lived in Shiro for seventy-three
years; and
WHEREAS Mrs. Ona E. Thomas Franklow now calls Huntsville and the
Lexington Center her home.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
September 29, 2011
be declared: “Ona Franklow Day”
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to join in the celebration of this
special member of our community.
