PROCLAMATION
No. 2011-43
WHEREAS the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) is a nonprofit crime prevention
organization which works in cooperation with thousands of crime watch groups and
law enforcement agencies throughout the country; and
WHEREAS National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” was introduced by the
Association in 1983, and is a nationwide event designed to promote neighborhood
safety; and
WHEREAS National Night Out Against Crime activities are designed to heighten crime and
drug prevention awareness, generate participation in local anti-crime programs,
strengthen neighborhood spirit and community partnerships, and send a message to
criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back; and
WHEREAS the Neighborhood Watch Crime Prevention Program plays a vital role in assisting
the Huntsville Police Department through joint crime, drug, and violence prevention
efforts; and
WHEREAS it is essential that all citizens of Huntsville be aware of the importance of crime
prevention programs and impact that their participation can have on reducing crime,
drugs and violence in Huntsville.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that
OCTOBER 4, 2011
be designated as:
“National Night Out Against Crime”
in Huntsville, Walker County, Texas and urge all citizens of Huntsville to support National Night
Out Against Crime by turning on their porch lights, and hosting and participating in neighborhood
events and activities.
