PROCLAMATION
NO. 2011-08
WHEREAS the Honorable James D. Patton has served Walker County as County Clerk
since 1978, and was named County Clerk of the Year in 1999 by the County
and District Clerks Association of Texas; and
WHEREAS since 1983, James’ strong interest in, and knowledge of, local history has
benefitted all during his tenure as the Chairman of the Walker County
Historical Commission, and care of the Gibbs-Powell House and Museum;
and
WHEREAS James served on the Physical Structure Team for the Wynne Home Arts
Center from 2000-2004, and continues to advise on the historical artifacts
in the home; and
WHEREAS James comes from a long line of actors and observers on the stage of
national and regional politics and events, and is known and loved across
the state of Texas; and
WHEREAS James has long served as a major resource and advisor regarding Walker
County or Texas history, and plans to enjoy his retirement by writing and
sharing his knowledge.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
December 31, 2010
be declared: “James D. Patton Day”
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to join in the celebration of his
special contributions to our community.
