PROCLAMATION
No. 2016-49
WHEREAS the Walker County Genealogical Society’s mission is to further the knowledge of genealogical research and maintain a collection of resource materials and books at the Huntsville
Public Library; and
WHEREAS the Dorothy Mae Hightower Collection, the LaDeanna Holcombe Collection and the Samuel Walker Houston High School materials add greatly to our collection; and
WHEREAS LaDeanna Ann Hightower Holcomb and Mader Hedspetch have given of their talents and spent many hours of their time to scan and preserve these materials; and
WHEREAS the Society wishes to recognize these ladies for their contributions to the Huntsville Public Library’s Johnnie Jo Sowell Dickenson Genealogy Room holdings and acknowledge that
these materials add greatly t the history of the African-American community of Huntsville.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that
August 20, 2016
be designated as: LaDeanna Hightower
Holcomb, Mader Hedspetch, and Dorothy Mae Hightower Day
in Huntsville, Texas, and urge all citizens to join in thanking these special ladies and hoping their contributions will encourage others to share their family histories as well.
