WHEREAS at the Southland Conference tournament in March, the Sam Houston 2015-16 Ladykats women’s basketball team became only the second team in the tournament’s 30-year history seeded
lower than fourth to get to the finals; and
WHEREAS seniors Angela Beadle and Shernise Robertson both received special honors, with Beadle being named the tournament’s MVP (and was only the second player from a runner-up finisher
to earn the honor in the 30-year history of the tournament), and Robertson was recognized as all-tournament after averaging 14.5 points and 4.0 assists per contest.
WHEREAS Coach Brenda Nichols followed the late Rebecca Bilsing to become the second coach in Sam Houston women's basketball history to direct the Bearkats to over 100 victories; and
WHEREAS the entire Sam Houston team’s performance was exhilarating and inspiring, including their combined season free throw team percentage, which broke the school record.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

in the City of Huntsville, and I encourage all citizens to join in celebrating the hard work and success of this triumphant team.
