Proc. 2016-31 - Autism Awareness Month - 3-15-16
PROCLAMATION
NO. 2016-31
WHEREAS autism is the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States, affecting more than three million people, and the increase of autism is a public health crisis;
and
WHEREAS autism is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the human brain, and can affect anyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or socioeconomic
background; and
WHEREAS the effort to address autism continues as doctors, therapists, and educators help persons with autism overcome or adjust to its challenges by providing early and accurate diagnoses
and appropriate education, intervention, and therapy; and
WHEREAS the City is honored to take part in the annual observance of Autism Awareness Month and World Autism Awareness Day in the hope that it will lead to a better understanding of
the disorder.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared: Autism Awareness Month
in the City of Huntsville and call upon our citizens to help those with autism achieve their greatest potential.
