PROCLAMATION
NO. 2018-27
WHEREAS thirty years ago, Jolene Miller joined an organization called Walker County Family Violence as an unpaid intern. In that same year, she proceeded to become a paid counselor
and was then named as Executive Director, one of only four employees at the time; and
WHEREAS under Jolene’s direction, the establishment is now known as SAAFE House, and has grown to a staff of 35 and a budget of $1.2 million, also receiving $615,000 in annual grants;
and
WHEREAS Jolene has not only worked on continuous improvement of the entity, but has also endeavored to develop her skills, through frequent training and completing her Masters in Health
Education; and
WHEREAS many years ago, Jolene wrote in a proposal to the SAAFE House Board of Directors that the Executive Director should “be the heart and soul of the agency: its ideals, its purposes,
and its goals in Walker County.” For thirty years, she has lived up to her words.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared: JOLENE MILLER DAY
in the City of Huntsville and call upon our citizens to join in the celebration and appreciation of Jolene Miller’s successful tenure and its benefit throughout our community and the
surrounding area.
