PROCLAMATION
NO. 2018-14
WHEREAS over 18 million Americans are directly harmed by crime each year, and each crime affects many more family members, friends, neighbors, and co-workers; and
WHEREAS the physical, emotional, and financial impact of crime falls on people of all ages and abilities, and of all economic, racial, and social backgrounds; and
WHEREAS today, thousands of victim assistance programs provide help and support to child victims of violence and sexual abuse; stalking victims; survivors of homicide victims; victims
of drunk-driving crashes; and victims of domestic, dating, and sexual violence and other crimes; and
WHEREAS National Crime Victims' Rights Week, April 8-14, 2018, provides an opportunity to extend the vision of a comprehensive strategy for reaching and serving every victim of crime,
to help ensure their access to the assistance they deserve and the rights they are promised; and
WHEREAS this year’s theme is Expand the Circle: Reach All Victims, emphasizing the importance of inclusion in victim services to address how the crime victims field can better ensure
that every crime victim has access to services and support and how professionals, organizations, and communities can work in tandem to reach all victims.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
April 8-14, 2018
be declared: National Crime Victims’ Rights Week
in the City of Huntsville, and encourage all citizens to commit to respect and enforce victims’ rights and address their needs throughout the year.
