PROCLAMATION
NO. 2017-50
WHEREAS Roxie Anna Roy Douglas was born on April 7, 1924, and was a proud resident of the City of Huntsville for many years; and
WHEREAS Roxie also touched the lives of many through her service to the First Missionary Baptist Church, her involvement in civic and charitable organizations, and the compassion she
gave so freely; and
WHEREAS the strength, self-sacrifice, determination, and love for others demonstrated by Roxie throughout her life shall forever stand as a shining example for those who wish to live
a long, prosperous, and happy life; and
WHEREAS since 1997, the Roxie Douglas Scholarship Foundation has enriched learning in Huntsville, awarding more than fifty scholarships to graduating seniors, and numerous Humanitarian
Awards to recognize the continuation of Roxie Douglas’ exemplary work and hopes for the future of youth in our area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
AUGUST 19, 2017
be declared:
ROXIE DOUGLAS SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION
AND LEARNING INSTITUTE DAY
in the City of Huntsville and urge all residents to join in celebration of their work
in our community.
