PROCLAMATION
No. 2017-46
WHEREAS the American Payroll Association and its 22,000-plus members have launched a nationwide public awareness campaign that pays tribute to the more than 156 million people who work
in the United States, and the payroll professionals who support the American system by paying wages, reporting worker earnings, and withholding federal employment taxes; and
WHEREAS payroll professionals in the City of Huntsville, Texas, play a key role in maintaining the economic health of the City, carrying out diverse tasks; and
WHEREAS payroll departments collectively spend more than $15 billion annually complying with myriad federal and state wage and tax laws; and play an increasingly important role ensuring
the economic security of America; and
WHEREAS this week celebrates the unique partnership among America’s workers, their companies, the payroll professionals who pay them and critical government programs such as social security,
Medicare, fair labor standards, and child support. Together, through payroll withholding, they contribute and collect more than half of all U.S. Treasury revenue.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, that
SEPTEMBER 4-8, 2017
be designated as: “NATIONAL PAYROLL WEEK”
in Huntsville, Texas, and urge all citizens to participate in observance of this important event.
