PROCLAMATION
NO. 2017-13
WHEREAS the Roxie Douglas Scholarship Foundation and Learning Institute has declared the first Saturday of April each year to be celebrated as Barbara Wiggs Fun Day in the Park; and
WHEREAS Barbara Wiggs was always involved in the lives of local children, at the Huntsville Public Library, on the HISD Gibbs Pre-K campus, and especially as an instructor at the Roxie
Douglas Learning Institute’s After School Program; and
WHEREAS Barbara dreamed of teaching dance in the proposed Roxie Douglas facility, and of founding the Fun Day in the Park, for which she worked so hard to make a reality; and
WHEREAS today we gather to remember her by enjoying the fruits of her labor and carrying on her mission of improving the lives and educations of our youth.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
April 1, 2017
be declared: Barbara Wiggs Fun Day in the Park
in the City of Huntsville, and urge all residents to join in honoring this fine program and the special citizen who inspired it.
