Proc. 2019-36 - Col. John Thomason Jr. day, 5-19 Proclamation N0. 2020-04 WHEREAS the Mrs. F. Earline Irving was born in Walker county on October 16, 1929. She was lived a life of love and service, marrying Alton Irving, and was a loving and faithful wife until his passing in 2010; and WHEREAS Irving continues to be a loving mother, not only to her daughter, Cheryl, she is the Church Mother at the Ministry of Light Church in Huntsville Texas. The Church looks to her as mother who has loved and nurtured every member. Irving is known as a kind and gentle spirit that exudes the love of God and a mother; and WHEREAS her time in the Church has included holding the Finance Chair, President of the MISSION, Sunday School teacher and more; and WHEREAS Irving believes in education and pursued it. In a time when education was not easily attained by women and especially blacks, she attended Tillotson College in Austin, Texas, where she graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor's degree. She went on to obtain a Master's degree. She has traveled the world. She lived for many years in Germany and taught school there as well as many locations in the states. She started teaching in a one-room school in Walker County and went on to teach in Oklahoma, Maryland, and the Washington, DC area. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that: October 12th, 2019 be declared: F. EARLINE IRVING DAY in Huntsville, Texas, and encourage all citizens to honor this great example of a woman.
