PROCLAMATION
No. 2019-33
WHEREAS George Miles was born and raised in Baytown, having graduated from SHSU in 1961; and
WHEREAS he spent his career in banking, retiring as Executive Vice President for the First National Bank of Huntsville in 2005, and continuing as the marketing coordinator until 2017;
and
WHEREAS Miles was selected as the Citizens of the Year by the Huntsville Item in 2007, served as an SHSU Liaison to the Texas State Legislature in 2009, and served as Chairman of the
board for the Huntsville/Walker County Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS he has been past president of the SHSU Alumni Association, being named 2008 recipient of the Service Award and Distinguished Alumni Award; and
WHEREAS Mr. Miles was directly involved in the origination of the Alumni Garden, the designation of the Presidents Tree, the completion of the Bell Tower, the restoration of the Old
Main pipe organ and its installation in the Peabody Library, and the initial establishment of the alumni clubs; and
WHEREAS he was also instrumental in the creation of an alumni committee to prevent any name change of the university.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that:

in Huntsville, Texas, and encourage citizens to join us in thanking George Miles for all he has contributed to our community.
