Proc. 2019-16 - Maize Warren day, 3-19-19
PROCLAMATION
No. 2019-16
WHEREAS World War II veteran Maize Warren recently celebrated his 100th birthday, spending time with his friends in arms, in his hometown of Huntsville; and
WHEREAS he has been recognized by Congressman Kevin Brady and Governor Greg Abbott for his service to his country, one of the few African Americans from Huntsville to be deployed to
Tuskegee, Alabama during the War; and
WHEREAS Warren was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African-American pilots in the Unites States military, he spent eight months in Tuskegee before being sent to fight in
Italy for 14 months, reaching the rank of Sergeant; and
WHEREAS Sgt. Warren was essential in protecting the planes and crews he was defending, garnering a reputation and record of losing only 25 bombers amongst hundreds of missions; and
WHEREAS he finished his military career at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio before returning to his home and family in Huntsville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that:

be declared: SGT. MAIZE WARREN DAY
in Huntsville, Texas, and encourage citizens to join us in thanking Sgt. Warren for all he has contributed to our country and community.
