Proc. 2020-20 - Texas Independence Day 3-2-2020
Proclamation No. 2020-20
WHEREAS many brave defenders of the Republic of Texas mad the ultimate sacrifice and secured independence at the Battle of San Jacinto; and
WHEREAS Texas was born on March 2, 1836, when delegates from throughout what was known as the Mexican Department of Texas convened at Washington-on-the-Brazos and signed the Texas Declaration
of Independence; and
WHEREAS the vision of freedom set down by our founders in the Texas Declaration of Independence lives on in the Texas spirit today; and
WHEREAS our community recognizes Texan and American hero General Sam Houston, who was born on March 2, 1793, and helped assure this onetime sovereign nation of its victory.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me on behalf of the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
March 2, 2020
be declared: Texas Independence Day
& General Sam Houston Day
in the city of Huntsville and encourage all citizens to reflect and remember the determination of Texan forces in 1836 and the continued significance of March 2.
