R E S O L U T I O N
No. 74-24
A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE PROPOSED AIMS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
OF THE BICENTENNIAL PLANNING COMMISSION
HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS

WHEREAS, the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission
was established by a Joint Resolution of the 89th Congress and the
American Revolution Bicentennial Commission of Texas was estab-
lished by the Texas Senate; and in order to review and reaffirm
the ideals and basic principles upon which this nation was
founded, and to commemorate the nation' s 200th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, through action of the City of Huntsville a
Bicentennial Committee has been established including represen-
tatives of the City, educational institutions , youth, ethnic
groups and the Chamber of Commerce, in the belief that Huntsville
citizens should be encouraged to examine the heritage and values
of this nation; and
WHEREAS, the Bicentennial Committee of Huntsville has
adopted a program of proposed achievements to be attained for this
community during this bicentennial era to include publication of
a City History, lasting area improvements, historical and heritage
programs commemorating County and City History (dramas , musicals
and festivals) , development of outdoor recreation areas , and
acknowledgment of our rich heritage ; all of which combine to meet
our goal of participating in the celebration of the American
Revolution Bicentennial;
THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Mayor and the City
Council of the City of Huntsville hereby pledges its support to
the Huntsville Bicentennial Planning Commission, endorses the
goals and projects of the Commission, and pledges its full
cooperation in the successful achievement of making Huntsville
citizens aware of the great heritage of our nation, state and
city.
Done this the 22nd day of October at a regular meeting of
the City Council of the City of Huntsville, Texas.
