RESO CC 1975-09 - Support TX Utilities Commission Resolution No. 75-9
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF TEXAS UTILITIES COMMISSION
WHEREAS the forty-nine other states within the United States of
America have provided for some regulation of intrastate utilities at
the state level; and
WHEREAS utilities in the unincorporated areas of the State of Texas
and long distance telephone rates within this State are totally unregulated;
and
WHEREAS the majority of incorporated cities in Texas lack the
resources to effectively regulate utilities or to engage in the frequent
litigation involved in rate regulation; and
WHEREAS utility firms in Texas generally represent a monopoly of
their particular service in their area of operation, and
WHEREAS the Legislature of Texas now meeting in Austin will soon
consider legislation creating a commission to provide for regulation of
all utility companies operating within this state;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Huntsville supports
the creation of a Texas Utilities Commission; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the elected officials of this State
are urged to support such legislation.
