RESO CC 12/18/1973 - Avenue I restrictions /7 1 47) AN QRDINANeEL DETERMINING THAT AVENUE I WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS , FROM ITS INTERSECTION WITH SOUTH SAM HOUSTON AVENUE NORTHEAST TO 15TH STREET SHOULD BE LIMITED IN VEHICULAR TRAFFIC TO VEHICLES WEIGHING LESS THAN 10 ,000 POUNDS AND PROHIBITING SUCH VEHICLES IN EXCESS OF SUCH WEIGHT, PROVIDING A PENALTY, DESIGNATING THE SIGNS TO BE PLACED INDICATING CERTAIN TRAFFIC PROHIBITED, AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS , Avenue I within the City limits of the City of Huntsville, Texas , at its point of intersection with 20th Street and thence northeast to its point of intersection with 15th Street is a narrow street subject to unusually heavy pedestrian traffic and small vehicular traffic by virtue of such street extending through the center portion of the campus of Sam Houston State Uni- versity, which unusual traffic conditions leads to traffic congestion and endangers the safety and welfare of pedestrian traffic when such street is used by trucks and other heavy vehicular traffic weighing in excess of 10 ,000 pounds , which conditions have been observed and verified by representatives of the City of Huntsville and a recommen- dation made that in the interest of the public in general that motor vehicular traffic be limited on said street at the point of access to said street from the nearest main traffic artery. I Section 3 : Any person violating the terms of the within ordinance shall, upon conviction, be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall be punished as provided in Section 1-8 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Huntsville , Texas . Section 4 : The appropriate department of the City of Huntsville, Texas , shall cause to be placed at access intersections of said Avenue I with main traffic arteries , signs in- dicating that vehicles weighing in excess of 10 ,000 pounds are prohibited. Section 5 : The fact that continued flow of vehicular traffic on said Avenue I constitutes a hazard to pedestrian traffic constitutes an emergency and that by virtue thereof this ordinance shall be effective from and after its passage.
