A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE
SUBMISSION OF A LETTER OF INTENT AND APPLICATION TO THE KREGSE FOUNDATION; AND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACT AS THE CITY'S EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND AUTHORIZED
REPRESENTATIVE IN ALL MATTERS PERTAINING TO THE CITY'S PARTICIPATION IN THE KREGSE
GRANT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS the City desires to develop a viable community for all citizens, and lack of a community
center is a threat to the health and safety of Huntsville's citizens; and
WHEREAS it is necessary and in the best interest of the City to apply for funding to the Kresge
Foundation.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that:
SECTION 1: A Letter of Intent and application are hereby authorized to be filed on behalf of the City and
be placed in competition for funding with the Kresge Foundation.
SECTION 2: The application will be for no more than $2,500,000.00 of grant funds to carry out the
Community Center Project.
SECTION 3: The Mayor and City Council strongly support this application to address the needs of the
community.
SECTION 4: The City Council directs and designates the City Manager as the City's Chief Executive
Officer and Authorized Representative to act in all matters in connection with this
application and the City's participation in the Kresge Foundation.

The City received a grant from FEMA for completion of a stand alone Tornado Shelter with a
total project cost of $1,662,492.00. The shelter will double as a gymnasium for the Boys and
Girls Club.

The City is able to leverage this to apply for grant funding of $2,500,000.00 to complete the
additional construction. This amount will provide a second phase of construction for the office,
k itchan ' computer room, and play rooms, which will be specifically for the Boys and Girls ClubThe total cost for the building is approximately $4,162,492.00.

• The City is building the gymnasium and waiving permit fees.
• The Boys and Girls Club is providing the land and $350,000.00 in matching funds for the
FEMA grant.
• The FEMA grant with matching funds is the match for the Kresge Foundation grant.
