P roclamation N0. 2020-02
WHEREAS Communities across the state of Texas will recognize Chamber of Commerce Week
on October 13-19 to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of chambers of
commerce and the communities they represent. A proclamation issued by Governor
Greg Abbott states, “…chambers of commerce have fostered job creation,
improved education and developed infrastructure, these organizations have
literally laid the foundation for many communities; and
WHEREAS, since 1934, The Huntsville Walker County Chamber of Commerce members, staff
and volunteers are routinely involved in many areas of the community. These
include the service on committees with the City of Huntsville, Huntsville ISD, Sam
Houston State University and the Downtown Business Alliance, business
development, business retention, business recruitment, tourism development,
education and workforce development, community development, creating
partnerships with Walker County, Texas Department of Corrections, Sam Houston
State University and the Small Business Development Center among others; and
WHEREAS, The Huntsville Walker County Chamber of Commerce has recently hired a new
President and CEO; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of this year’s celebration the Huntsville Walker County Chamber of
Commerce will provide several opportunities for business people and community
members to connect such as the upcoming “Celebrating New Beginnings” Gala on
December 6.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of
the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared: Chamber of Commerce Week
in the City of Huntsville and call upon our citizens to recognize the significant role the
Huntsville/Walker County Chamber of Commerce plays in the development of our
community.
