A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE
SUBMISSION OF A U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AGRICULTURAL MARKETING SERVICE
DIVIDION FARMERS MARKET PROMOTIONAL PROGRAM GRANT FOR THE CREATION OF A FARMERS
MARKET IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACT AS THE CITY'S
EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE IN ALL MATTERS PERTAINING TO THE
CITY'S PARTICIPATION IN USDA AMS FARMERS MARKET PROMOTIONAL PROGRAM.
WHEREAS The City desires to encourage a healthy lifestyle for all citizens, and a Farmers Market would
promote the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms while fostering job
creation and increase the economic viability of local farmers; and
WHEREAS It is necessary and in the best interest of the City to apply for funding under the USDA AMS
Farmers Market Promotional Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that:
SECTION 1: A grant application is hereby authorized to be filed on behalf of the City and be placed in
competition for funding under the USDA AMS Farmers Market Promotional Program.
SECTION 2: The application will be for no more than $100,000 of grant funds to carry out the creation of
a Downtown Farmers Market.
SECTION 3: The Mayor and City Council strongly support this application to address the community
health and wellbeing for the citizens of Huntsville the economic benefits for our local
farmers.
SECTION 5: The City Council directs and designates the City Manager, Bill Baine, as the City's Chief
Executive Officer and Authorized Representative to act in all matters in connection with this
application and the City's participation in the USDA AMS Farmers Market Promotional
Program.
