AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 6 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF
THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, BY REPEAL OF PRESENT CHAPTER 6
IN ITS ENTIRETY, EXCEPT FOR SECTION 6 -4, AND BY SUBSTITUTION
THEREFOR A NEW CHAPTER 6 BY ADOPTION, AS AMENDED THE SOUTHERN
STANDARD BUILDING CODE, 1969 EDITION, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY
FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF:
SECTION I
RR IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, THAT CHAPTER 6 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES
OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, IS HEREBY REPEALED EFFECTIVE
UPON THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THE ADOPTION OF A NEW CHAPTER 6 OF
THE CODE OF ORDINANCES EXCEPT FOR SECTION 6 -4 THEREOF, AS HERE-
INAFTER SPECIFIED.
SECTION II
A. RF, IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, THAT THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, BE AMENDED BY THE INCLUSION THEREIN OF A NEW
CHAPTER 6 TO RE ENTITLED "BUILDINGS ", AND WHICH SAID CHAPTER 6
SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING:
There is hereby adopted by the City Council, for the
purpose of establishing rules and regulations for the
construction, alteration, removal, demolition, equip-
ment use and occupancy, location and maintenance of
buildings and structures, including permits and pen-
alties, that certain building code known as Southern
Standard Building Code, 1969 Edition, together with the
appendices thereof, of which not less than 3 copies
have been and now are filed in the office of the City
Secretary of the City, and the whole thereof, save and
except such portions as are clearly deleted in the signed
copies, or hereinafter changed or amended, and the same
is hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at
length herein, and the provisions thereof shall be control-
ling in the construction of all buildings and other structures
therein contained within the corporate limits of the city,
except as follows:
1. Section 114: After the word misdemeanor in the
first sentence of said Section, a comma should be in-
serted and the language added "and the punishment
therefor shall be as provided in the Code of Ordinances
of the City of Huntsville, Texas ". The remainder of
said Section remains unchanged.
2. Section 1115.1 (b) should read: All interior stair-
ways shall have solid risers, except as specifically
approved by the building officials. Exterior stairs
may have open risers.
3. Section 1115.2 (b) should read: In no case shall a
stair from a lower story lead to an exit doorway
serving an exit stair from an upper story, unless such
stair from below is separated at its upper end from
the stair above by partitions equal to the fire rating
of the stair - enclosure, except as specifically approved
by the building officials.

4. Section 1702.12 should read: Soil or compacted
fill directly below concrete slab will be treated
with chlordane solution in either a distillate
or water base, applied at the rate of one gallon
for every ten square feet. This includes beam
bottoms as well as the area below the slab.
5. Section 1705 and 1707 should read: Where reference
is made to "Simplified Span Tables for Joists and
Rafters in Residential Construction ", October 1966
will be replaced by "current edition" as published
by the National Forest Products Association.
B. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, THAT SECTION 6 -4 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES
OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, ENTITLED "FIRE LIMITS ESTABLISHED
AND DESCRIBED" AND SAVED FROM REPEAL BY SECTION I OF THE WITHIN
ORDINANCE ALL BE INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION OF THE SAID SOUTHERN
STANDARD BUILDING CODE, 1969 EDITION, AS APPENDIX "G" THEREOF.
