Huntsville's Town Creek Drainage Project is
progressing and Phase II is set to begin. Work in
the affected areas is likely to produce delays and
detours. Right now, this is occurring on 7th Street
between Old Madisonville Road and Avenue M.
On or about October 10, 2016, work will begin at
the 10th Street intersection between Avenue N
and Avenue O. This is scheduled to last about
eight weeks. Following the work at 7th Street and
10th Street, it is anticipated that progress will
begin in early November at Avenue N and 11th
Street, in the area of First National Bank. This
portion of the work will be constructed during the
daytime, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Drivers are
urged to plan alternate routes and provide
adequate time to reach their destinations in light
of the changes in traffic patterns. Detour
information will be distributed on the City Website
and Facebook page.
In an effort to reduce the impact to local
businesses, the next phase of construction is
anticipated to be completed primarily during the
nighttime ours of 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Limited
construction activities may be required during
daytime hours. If required, these activities will be
conducted in a manner to limit disruption as much
as possible. This part of the project will include
replacing the underground structures along 13th
Street between Avenue M and Sam Houston
Avenue and then progress through Sam Houston
Avenue, the Walker County Annex parking lot,
across University Avenue, and through the
Midway Plaza parking lot, ending at the
intersection of 14th Street and Avenue J.
In November 2015, the City entered into a
contract with Garney Construction to provide
Construction Manager at Risk services. Phase
included the work done on the SHSU intramural
fields and Bearkat Boulevard and is in the final
stages of completion.
Garney Construction vows to give its best efforts
to construct this project with as little impact as
possible to the city of Huntsville and its citizens.
For questions, concerns, or more information,
please contact Garney at their local address, 1402
Sam Houston Avenue, Suite B, Huntsville, Texas,
77340, or call 936-291-5428. Follow progress on
the entire Town Creek Drainage Project by
