the 84th Legislative Session, Governor Abbott Recycling
signed SB 904 into law, allowing for sales tax • This Week in
exemptions on emergency supplies from 12:01 Huntsville
a.m. on Saturday, April 23rd until midnight on
Monday, April 25th. Texans are projected to save
$1.4 million in state and local sales taxes during
the holiday.
"The storm system currently moving through the
State of Texas is a powerful reminder of the
important role early preparation plays in protecting
Texans from the effects of severe weather," said
Governor Abbott. "I applaud the legislature for
approving this vital tax relief for Texas families and
urge all Texans to take advantage of this
weekend's tax holiday so they can be prepared for
any and all severe weather."
SB 904 provides a temporary sales and use tax
exemption for certain emergency preparation
items sold during a three-day period beginning
April 23rd and ending April 25th.
Items that qualify for the exemption include certain
portable generators, hurricane shutters, ladders,
portable self-powered light sources, fuel
containers, radios, batteries, smoke detectors, fire
extinguishers and first aid kits.

may be purchased tax-free, visit the Comptroller's
website.
